Week #12

Mom and the President
We enjoyed a nice Saturday. After cleaning the apartment we met other seniors at the Truman Museum and Library. I was expecting to be herded in a group through the exhibits put we were on our own which meant that we could take our time where we wanted and move along at other times. And usually when we are in a group I can't hear. I really enjoyed the place. It was built so that you follow the exhibits through Truman's life chronologically. He started out as a farmer and ended up the in the most powerful position in the world. You have to admire him that he never forgot his roots and ended up back where he started in Independence just being a regular citizen. He served at a time when so much depended on the decisions he was to make. It was good to learn more about such an amazing man - and he was a Democrat to boot! It seems as if God always raises up a great leader when the United States most needs one and for that we should all be thankful. I highly recommend the library when you are this way. Kids probably won't enjoy it much but you can leave them at the motel pool. Maybe they would enjoy it as it is interactive and hands-on in places but lots of reading. After the library we did some shopping at Walmart and got take home at Burger King. Thanks, Bill.
William and wife after his baptism

We continue to appreciate the opportunity to serve in the Riverview branch. Two men spoke about tithing today and did a great job. One was very animated which made it fun to listen. I assume neither one has been a member for too long. The young missionaries had quite a few investigators out to Sacrament meeting and there was a good sized crowd. One couple was from Colorado here to attend the Chiefs game.  A couple of the missionaries are getting transferred this week and we hate to see them go. After meetings there was a baptism of an older man whose wife was already a member. It was a nice baptism except some of the kids had a hard time settling down. The Elders' quorum was asked to sing a hymn which was a surprise to all of us but it turned out nice. We sounded pretty good.

The last few days the temperature has gotten down to single digits with highs in the 20's but by next Saturday it is forecast to be back up to fifty. The temperature swings about like the price of gas. It is not unusual to see a 25 cent swing either up or down in one day. Usually up.

Things were somewhat frustrating for me at the office this week. One apartment complex decided they won't take checks anymore so you have to pay on their portal with a credit card which includes credit card fees. But then their portal won't take a corporate card so all that is left us is a personal card which the church won't let me do. I already did that once and had to repent.  I emailed (they don't answer the phone and don't respond to messages) the office managers of the apartments asking if I could visit with them to figure things out but got no reply. But this too shall pass.

Mom is looking good at her new desk!

Keep praying for those having challenges.

"...remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that he cometh to redeem the world."
